Aileen Archive (Ltd.) was established in 1994 for the purpose of managing the copyright of the photographic work MINAMATA by W. Eugene Smith and Aileen M. Smith. MINAMATA was LIFE photographer W. Eugene Smith’s last work. The photographs were taken during 1971-1974. Aileen is the owner of the copyright of these photographs.
Aileen Archive provides MINAMATA Smith photographs to the media, museums, schools, scholars, commercial publications, NGOs, environmental pollution victims and the general public.
Aileen Archive also produces exhibitions of Eugene and Aileen’s photographic work MINAMATA. It facilitates lectures and discussions on environmental issues pertaining to Minamata and W. Eugene Smith’s photojournalism by Aileen at these exhibitions.
Aileen Archive provides services at low cost or pro bono to citizen organizations and groups working on behalf of Minamata Disease (methylmercury pollution) victims.
